Business activities resumed in Ojota and its environs, Lagos State, on Tuesday as the #EndBadGovernance protesters did not gather as anticipated.
Despite Tuesday being the sixth day of protests against hunger and hardship, a strong presence of security personnel was observed.
No protesters were seen at the usual assembly point in Ojota. On Monday, protesters had defied President Bola Tinubu’s Sunday address, assembling at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park to continue their demonstrations.
Hassan Taiwo, Ayoyinka Oni, and Adegboyega Adeniji, representing the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria Organising Committee, stated that the group re-convened on Monday because the President’s broadcast did not address their demands. They expressed disappointment that it took three days of protest for Tinubu to respond.
In his Sunday broadcast, President Tinubu assured that his administration was ready to listen and address the protesters’ concerns, urging them to suspend further protests and open room for dialogue. Despite this, the organizers considered the decision to address the nation as a significant victory for their movement.
