BREAKING: Soldiers Take Action After Surrounding Venue Of NLC Meeting

Soldiers have started taking action after they were deployed to the venue of the meeting between organised labour and the representatives of the federal government.

In response to the nationwide strike initiated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), engaged in a private emergency meeting with labour leaders.

However, the soldiers barred journalists and other visitors from entering the meeting location.

Working along with other security agents, the soldiers allowed only a few individuals inside.

The organized labour unions commenced a countrywide strike on Monday due to unsuccessful minimum wage discussions.

The strike has resulted in the national grid being shut down, causing widespread power outages. Additionally, flight schedules have been disrupted, government offices at both federal and state levels have been closed, and economic activities have been significantly impacted.

Key labour leaders, including NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) President Comrade Festus Osifo, are in attendance at the ongoing discussions.

Previous attempts to resolve the issue, including a session with the National Assembly leadership on Sunday, failed to reach an agreement and did not prevent the strike.

The decision from this meeting will influence whether the strike will be called off or continued. Additionally, the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage has scheduled a follow-up meeting with organized labour on Tuesday.
