Senate President Godswill Akpabio has weighed in on the recent spat between Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike and FCT Senator Ireti Kinigbe.

Akpabio advised Wike to overlook the senator’s remarks. He gave this advice on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Kugbo Bus Terminal in Abuja’s Nyanya area. He urged Wike not to be swayed by criticism, emphasizing that regardless of his actions, there will always be detractors.

“A lot of people will criticize you,” Akpabio remarked. “I saw a legislator on television complaining about not being consulted. However, as a member of the Senate, decisions taken must be respected and followed.”

He urged Wike to remain focused amidst distractions, noting that not everyone will praise his efforts and some will seek to find fault.

Akpabio commended Wike for his transformative initiatives in enhancing transportation networks, completing stalled road projects, and constructing modern facilities. He highlighted the Kugbo Bus Terminal’s significance in easing traffic congestion and enhancing mobility for residents and visitors.

Earlier, Wike expressed gratitude to Akpabio for launching the bus terminal project and acknowledged the support of the Senate and House Committees on FCT and Area Council in securing funding through the 2024 Appropriation Act.

He underscored the terminal’s importance in providing reliable transportation options, especially during inclement weather, and reducing risks associated with unregulated transport services.

“The bus terminal will ensure safer and more efficient travel experiences, minimizing ‘one chance’ incidents and providing commuters with reliable access to transportation,” Wike emphasized.
