Angry youths and women have seized control of the All Progressives Congress secretariat in Benin, Edo State, demanding the dismissal of the state executives led by acting Chairman, Jarret Tenebe, following Saturday’s governorship primary election.

The poll resulted in three declared winners.

Governor Hope Uzodimma, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee for the primary, declared Dennis Idahosa as the winner while returning officer Stanley Ugboaja announced Monday Okpebholo as the winner too.

In addition, Ojo Babatunde, purporting to represent the returning officers from all local governments, proclaimed Anamero Dekeri as the election winner.

The assembled crowd, under the leadership of the party’s youth leader, Tony Adun, popularly known as Kabaka, forcefully entered the premises, removing furniture, bags of rice, and other equipment.

They pledged to occupy the building for seven days.

Adun expressed their grievances over the conduct of the officials during Saturday’s primary, which resulted in three winners, suggesting that the executives had acted against the interests of the party.

He insisted they would not vacate the premises until the executive committee is dissolved, adding that they intended to remain there, cooking, eating, and lodging for seven days.

Adun stated, “It is evident that the party executives in the state are no longer prioritizing the interests of the party, so it is time for them to step aside.

“We are here in solidarity with Dennis Idahosa, who has been nominated by the party. We urge party members to support Idahosa’s candidacy in the governorship election in September.

“As you can see, we are here in large numbers, including youths and women, to express our dissatisfaction with the way the executives managed the election.”
