Great news on Tuesday morning, with Joelinton reported to be set to put pen to paper on a new deal.
The media exclusive from The Telegraph says that a series of meetings between the club, the player and his representatives, have led to a breakthrough, with the new contract set to be formally announced this month.
The report states that in the absence of on gardening leave Sporting Director Dan Ashworth, the talks have been led on the club side of things by Newcastle United chief scout Steve Nickson.
Joelinton currently has less than 15 months to go until his current deal is set to end on 30 June 2025 but The Telegraph say that once the new deal is formally announced, their information is that the Brazil international will be contracted for at least four years, possibly even five, taking him up to the end of June 2028 or 2029.
The newspaper says that whilst final details of the deal still need to be ‘thrashed out’, the big issue of a wide gap on the wages front in any new deal, has been successfully bridged in negotiations.
It always felt like surely a compromise could be reached on this one, with everybody, including most importantly Joelinton himself, wanting this journey to continue. With Eddie Howe having rescued Joelinton from Steve Bruce, who ended up regularly leaving the Brazilian out of the team, helping to realise his true talent as a midfield enforcer who can also be involved in key moments in the attacking third.
The new contract is expected to be agreed, signed and formally announced later this month, which hopefully will prove ideal timing to coincide with the much anticipated Joelinton return to action for the final matches of the season.
As well as moving to within the group of very highest paid players at Newcastle United, Joelinton will become one of those with the longest remaining deals, indeed possibly the very longest. With his best mate Bruno having agreed a new deal earlier this season that extended his contract to end of June 2028.
