With the busy spring season just around the corner, Broadway was in a bit of the winter doldrums last week, with all but four productions – Cabaret, Redwood, Romeo + Juliet, Wicked – reporting drops in ticket sales from the previous week.

In all, the 27 productions took in $28,135,565 for the week ending February 9, about a 10% drop (roughly $3 million) from the previous week when there were 29 shows on board. (Gone were Cult of Love and Left on Tenth). Total attendance for the week was 247,887, a 4% drop. (The greater percentage for the grosses could be due, at least in part, to the final week of Broadway’s annual 2-for-1 promotion).

In previews is Redwood, the new musical starring Idina Menzel, pulling in robust numbers at the Nederlander. For seven previews, the venue was 98% full, with a gross of $856,603. Opening night is February 13.

With closing night fast approaching – February 16 – Romeo + Juliet starring Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler saw a solid jump of $19,919 to $1,025,290, selling out Circle in the Square.

Also closing this coming Sunday is All In: Comedy About Love, selling out at the Hudson and grossing $1,163,537, a significant $917,170 drop from the previous much-hyped Jimmy Fallon week. Eureka Day also closes Sunday, and last week grossed $347,328, about 81% of capacity at the Friedman.

Other sell-outs were The Outsiders and Wicked. Coming close at 95% or more capacity were & Juliet, Cabaret, Death Becomes Her (99%), English, Gypsy, Hadestown (99%), Hamilton, Hell’s Kitchen, Maybe Happy Ending, MJ, Redwood and The Book of Mormon. Oh, Mary! was at 93% and $760,485, sturdy numbers if down a bit from when Cole Escola was starring.

The week’s biggest seller was, as usual, Wicked with $2,324,693. Runner-up was The Lion King at $1,602,483.

Season to date, Broadway, in the 38th week of the 2024-25 season, has grossed $1,292,127,236 up about 18% over last year at this time, with total attendance of 10,129,661 up 17%.
