Journalist Romain Molina predicts legal proceedings for corruption against CAN officials.

At the end of the three days of the CAN group stage, Côte d’Ivoire occupies third position in Group A, ahead of Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria, but ahead of Guinea-Bissau. With one victory, two defeats and only 3 points on the clock, the Elephants maintain a tenuous hope of qualifying for the quarter-finals by aiming for a place among the best thirds.

“They are going to prison faster than expected”

This disappointing situation for the African champions, also hosts of the tournament, sparked critical commentary from journalist Romain Molina. He highlights the contrast between the performances of the Ivorian team and the officials of the Organizing Committee of the African Cup of Nations (COCAN) and the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) who benefited financially from the organization of the Can and ticket sales.

“The people from COCAN and the Ivorian federation who have eaten well off the backs of the CAN organization and the ticket office will probably go to prison sooner than expected,” Molina wrote on Twitter.

And added: “Sad for the Ivorians and the people who invested without counting. Afterwards when you favor the names (on the bench and the field) excessively…”
