Jennifer Lopez‘s trip to the Toronto International Film Festival was a much-needed “uplift” amid her divorce!

As Perezcious readers know, J.Lo made her first public appearance since her divorce filing from Ben Affleck was made official on Friday when she attended the premiere of their new film Unstoppable. Despite producing it, Ben did not show up. Instead, Jenny from the Block got to have some one-on-one time with his best friend, Matt Damon, who also produced the film via their production company Artists Equity.

The trip was apparently a nice break for the pop star, who hit pause on work over the summer as her relationship was deteriorating. A source told People on Monday that she “was happy to be in the spotlight again because of work.” They elaborated:

“She’s so over all the attention on her personal life. The film festival truly uplifted her. She was excited to focus on work again.”

As for her emotional catch-up with Matt at the afterparty, a source told the outlet that the Let’s Get Loud singer is “very close with Matt,” and “enjoyed spending time with him.”

ICYMI, she was seen holding hands with Matt during an intimate chat following the premiere (below). But according to DailyMail.com, there was a bit of tension in the air because J.Lo tried to use the 20-minute convo to get intel on her estranged husband amid the split, which The Martian star was not having. Awkward!

Despite some possible friction, the work trip helped Jennifer get into a “much happier” headspace than previously, the People source noted:

“She seems much happier than a few weeks ago. She continues to look for a new home for her and the kids. She’s taking her time.”

That’s good! She sure looked happy to be at the premiere — and it was probably a great distraction from the heartbreaking divorce!

A day after the film debuted, Jennifer caught up with People herself and she had some inneresting things to say about how much she relates to the sports drama these days. And yeah, it was shady AF when you consider her breakup! She began by calling the movie role “very cathartic,” explaining:

“Women who are moms who get in relationships, and you struggle with them, and you find yourself in dynamics that are not healthy, but you care about the person, love the person. That’s those complicated dynamics about life that I understand really well.”

Oof.

That’s telling! Especially after overhearing her admit that she has a “bad picker” elsewhere during the premiere! Nevertheless, it seems like she enjoyed getting to share a bit of her side of the split while promoting the film. And yeah, you can argue that she is obviously going to have her people pepper these quotes among the media, but it probably was a sincere breath of fresh air for her, too.
