Centre is relied on by debt-ridden TG

The Government of Telangana is asking for more money to help with debts and to fund welfare programs in the upcoming financial year. The Finance department has put together a report on the state’s financial needs, which will be sent to the Union Finance ministry for consideration before the Union Budget is presented on July 23.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy recently requested more central grants during a visit to Delhi, and the State Finance department is now following up with the Union ministries. The government has specifically asked for increased funding for rural and road development, as well as the release of pending central grants for various programs.

Telangana is hoping that the Centre will agree to provide more funds under the Backward Region Grant Fund, as they are currently owed Rs 1,800 crore. Requests for funding for skill development centers, housing projects, road networks, health schemes, irrigation projects, and water supply schemes will also be made to the Centre.

A delegation led by Secretaries will meet with Union secretaries in New Delhi this week to discuss funding allocations. The state budget will be finalized based on the funds allocated by the Centre, with priorities given to sectors that don’t receive enough central grants. Resolving the issue of pending central grants is also a priority before the Union budget presentation.
