Chelsea have agreed a contract with Brazilian starlet Pedro Lima with the Blues winning the race to sign the 17-year-old.

Real Madrid have also been eager to sign the full-back from Sport Recife, viewing him as a long-term successor for Dani Carvajal on the right.

Chelsea are continuing their push to sign up the brightest South American talent however with their move for Lima now at an ‘advanced stage’.

It is expected Lima would immediately join Strasbourg on loan. The French club, who Todd Boehly’s consortium purchased a majority stake in last year, signed Blues youngsters Andrey Santos and Angelo on loan last season with the same arrangement looming for Lima.

Lima’s manager Renato Guimarães told Globo Esporte his client has agreed a salary package with the Premier League side with other clauses in the deal currently being ironed out.

Chelsea are thought to be paying an initial fee of £6.7million.

‘There has been progress in negotiations, but it has not yet closed,’ Guimarães said.

‘The salary part has been agreed, but there are still some clauses in the contract to be defined, some bonuses.’

Should the deal go through, Lima will become the latest Brazilian youngster to join Chelsea as part of their ambitious recruitment drive in South America.

Las month, the club agreed a deal worth an initial £29m with Palmeiras to sign Estevao Willian with the winger set to move to Stamford Bridge in 2025. Last summer, Angelo, Deivid Washington joined the club.

Tosin Adarabioyo became Chelsea’s first signing of the summer last week, making the short journey from Fulham to join his new side on a free transfer.

Enzo Maresca’s side are also thought to be weighing up a move for Manchester City star Julian Alvarez with reports suggesting the Argentina international is considering a move away to secure more game time.

Atletico Madrid have already made an approach to sign the forward, one that was swiftly rejected by the Premier League champions.
