Chelsea continue to plunder Premier League revelation club

What to remember from Chelsea’s season? Alternating between hot and cold, the Blues always emerged from the crisis as quickly as they entered it. Yet singled out by the entire London community, Mauricio Pochettino is still in office thanks to this average mandate (contract until 2025, plus an optional year) which calls for patience in the minds of English leaders. One of the other reasons for taking your time with the Argentine coach is the youth of the project for the current tenth in the Premier League.

Often mocked for squandering money wildly during the transfer market, the Blues at least have the merit of having recently invested with a project in mind. As a result, several young players have joined the English capital for sometimes tidy sums of money. Moises Caicedo illustrates this change of direction. Imperial during the 2022-2023 season with Brighton, the Ecuadorian midfielder joined Chelsea for 133 million euros, a record in the history of the Premier League. The arrival of the 22-year-old in the English capital also illustrates a new mania for the Blues: going to Brighton while Marc Cucurella and Robert Sanchez had also committed to Chelsea earlier.

11 signings from Brighton in the last 17 months

Under the leadership of Todd Boehly, Chelsea have made the Seagulls their new favorite prey. It started 17 months ago with the arrival of Graham Potter on the bench of the club winning the Champions League in 2021. The English tactician arrived with a bloated staff made up of Billy Reid, Bjorn Hamberg, Bruno Saltor, Ben Roberts, Kyle McCauley. But while most of his colleagues bore the brunt of Potter’s dismissal as head of the team last April, only the last two mentioned remained at Chelsea and currently hold positions in the club’s sporting management.

This Tuesday, the latter were joined by Sam Jewell. Considered one of the architects of the current Brighton which relies on the recruitment of young diamonds to polish, the 34-year-old manager will be the new head of recruitment for the Blues. A very good operation for Chelsea which continues its raid on the southern English club: with the arrival of Jewell, the six-time English champion club is on its eleventh recruit from Brighton in the last 17 months, staff included. At this rate, Todd Boehly would surely have done better to buy the training of the seaside city directly…
