WWE brought a big episode of SmackDown for their January 10 episode of the show in the Moda Center in Portland. That included a couple title matches, and Chelsea Green was ready for battle.
Chelsea Green is a fighting champion, and she proved that this week on SmackDown. The first-ever WWE Women’s United States Champion was on the show to defend her title against Michin.
These two had a back-and-forth match that spanned through a commercial break. Despite how hard she tried, Michin could not put Chelsea Green away. In the end, Michin got some near falls out of Green, and she was also able to kick out of the champion’s offense on several occasions.
In the end, Piper Niven received a kick from Michin, and then she hit Chelsea Green’s accomplice with a dive off the apron. Then Michin nailed a top rope move on Green, but Chelsea was able to roll her up for a pinfall to retain the title.
Although Chelsea Green beat Michin in the finals of the Women’s US Title tournament, the two were far from finished. The former Mia Yim made that very clear when she confronted the new champion during her celebration on the blue brand during their January 3 episode.
This match was the first of the night during this week’s SmackDown, right after the blockbuster segment which saw Paul Heyman announce Roman Reigns’ intention to win the 2025 WWE Royal Rumble match. Michin did not receive a full entrance, but Chelsea Green, with Piper Niven by her side, got her whole championship walk to the squared circle on television.
