CM Punk’s dreams of main eventing WrestleMania may been halted this year due to injury, but he is still finding ways to be relevant around the combat sports world every now and then making multiple appearances for WWE and outside sports.
The Best in the World was recently spotted to be in attendance for UFC 298, taking place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California which was a stacked card of some of the best MMA fighters in the world.
The show was main evented by a high-stakes UFC Featherweight championship match, pitting the champion Alexander Volkanovski against Ilia Topuria. A highly intense and physical battering match inside the octagon saw Volkanovski being KO-punched by Topuria in the second round and losing his championship in the process.
Despite his huge loss, he received major endorsement for his performance from CM Punk, who stated in an interview posted by TNT Sports that even in defeat, Volk was still a champion to him.
“My heart goes out to Volkanovski right now and I know the chatter is going to be, should he have fought for months after getting knocked out? But that’s the fight game. My hats off to him for being such an active fighting champion.”
CM Punk himself knows a thing or two about losing a highly anticipated UFC bout, having some experience of his own inside the octagon in the past.
However, he is now back in WWE as a performer for the company but will be sitting on the sidelines for WrestleMania 40 due to an unfortunate triceps injury.
Do you agree with CM Punk’s comments about Alexander Volkanovski? Will the UFC fighter reclaim his title following the loss at UFC 298? Sound off in the comments!
