EXCLUSIVE: After 5+ years without a special, comedian Demetri Martin is poised to return with two new ones for Netflix, Deadline has learned. The first, Demetri Deconstructed, premieres globally on the platform on April 2nd. Check out a trailer above.

No word yet on what Martin will speak to in the specials, but they’re the 7th and 8th of his career. Most recently debuting his hour The Overthinker on Netflix in 2018, Martin has also released specials with Comedy Central and BBC 3.

One of the most original comedic voices of his generation, known for bringing musical instruments as well as visual aids into his act, Martin began honing his craft on New York City’s vibrant stand-up circuit after graduating from Yale in 1995. Breaking out with his critically acclaimed one-man show, If I, which won the Perrier Award at the International Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland and was turned into a special for the BBC, Martin worked early in his career as a staff writer for Late Night with Conan O’Brien, earning a WGA Award and an Emmy nomination for his work before going on to serve as a writer-performer on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

Previously leading his own Comedy Central series, Important Things with Demetri Martin, Martin has also been seen in Roku’s award winner Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, as well as films like Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock, In a World…, and Contagion. Additionally, he directed, exec produced and hosted Our Fascinating Planet, a short-form comedy series for Funny or Die.

Martin made his feature directorial debut with Dean, a 2016 Tribeca prize winner that had him starring alongside Kevin Kline, Gillian Jacobs, Rory Scovel and more, and has also authored multiple books, including New York Times bestsellers This Is a Book and Point Your Face at This. The multi-hyphenate is repped by UTA and Schreck Rose Dapello.
