Concerns Raised Over Ramzan Arrangements by Congress Government: MBT Spokesman

Amjed Ullah Khan, the spokesman for Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), has voiced strong criticism against the Congress-led Telangana government, alleging inadequate arrangements for Ramzan 2024. Khan expressed dismay over the lack of proper Iftar arrangements at Makkah Masjid and the absence of senior officials from the Minorities Welfare Department to oversee the proceedings.

According to Khan, the promised allocation of Rs. 5.0 Crores for Ramzan arrangements by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has raised questions, as the funds’ utilization remains unclear. He highlighted the distress faced by Muslim traders and business owners, citing instances of harassment by the Telangana Police Department, including heavy fines and forced closures by 10:00 PM.

Khan lamented the discontinuation of the Coordination Committee meetings, a tradition upheld prior to 2014-15, where Muslim representatives and government officials would collaborate on Ramzan preparations. He criticized Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s nine-year tenure for neglecting to convene such gatherings, which were crucial for addressing community concerns and implementing effective arrangements.

In an effort to address these grievances, Khan revealed that MBT had formally communicated their concerns to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Mohammed Ali Shabbir, the advisor on Minority Affairs, but received no response. He noted a solitary meeting convened by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, which lacked adequate representation from relevant government departments.

Khan emphasized the importance of addressing Muslim community issues, reminding the Congress party of the pivotal role their support played in securing power in Karnataka and Telangana. He urged the government to take immediate action to rectify the situation and ensure equitable treatment for all citizens during religious observances.
