Matthew Gray Gubler is returning to the world of Criminal Minds! The 44-year-old actor, who plays Spencer Reid in theeries, will be making a long-awaited appearance on Paramount+‘s Criminal Minds: Evolution. Keep reading to find out more… Sources confirmed to TVLine that “fortunately, schedules aligned” and he will be making a return for part of one episode of the upcoming season (Season 3 of Evolution, Season 18 overall.) Matthew has not yet appeared in the sequel series, which debuted on Paramount+ in November 2022. The show revealed that Spencer Reid and fellow MIA cast member Daniel Henney’s Matt Simmons have been away on an assignment. “It’s a little bit of a mystery what Reid and Simmons are up to,” showrunner Erica Messer told TVLine at the time the show debuted, “but they’re certainly not forgotten.” “Dr. Reid’s and I believe Matt Simmons’ desks are still there, still have stuff on it…,” she noted. “[Spencer and Matt] are not gone gone.” “I’m not giving up hope on that. But I do know that everybody has these lives outside of our show, and that’s the tricky part…. They’re off doing other things,” she added. Matthew is working on the pilot for CBS’ Einstein procedural, in which he’ll play Albert Einstein’s “brilliant but directionless” great-grandson.
