Crystal Palace’s meeting with Roy Hodgson’s replacement in London hotel was gatecrashed by Championship stars

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish reportedly held a secret meeting with incoming manager Oliver Glasner in a London hotel… but was spotted by players from an EFL club.

Glasner is expected to be named new Palace manager, but the situation has been complicated by Roy Hodgson collapsing in training on Thursday.

The 76-year-old was rushed to hospital and the latest update from the club said he was in a ‘stable condition’.

Parish is understood to have travelled with Hodgson from Palace’s training base in Beckenham to hospital.

The Palace chairman is reported to have held a meeting with former Frankfurt boss Glasner in the Hilton Hotel in Greenwich on Friday night, according to The Sun.

The pair were reportedly spotted by players from the Sheffield Wednesday squad, who were staying at the same hotel ahead of their meeting with Millwall on Saturday at The Den.

Glasner was then seen watching Tottenham take on Wolves at the weekend, with Palace playing Spurs in two week’s time.

talkSPORT understands that it is now a waiting game for Hodgson to announce that he will be stepping back from his duties.

The club face Everton at Goodison Park on Monday in a crunch relegation clash.

talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook said: “The expectation is now that Roy Hodgson will announce, at some point, that he is stepping back from his duties as Crystal Palace manager.

“That has partly been forced upon him with the fact Palace have lined-up his successor in Oliver Glasner. It was not particularly subtle as he was in the crowd at Tottenham yesterday.

“There is a question over the timing. Does Roy do that before the game against Everton on Monday night? Or do his coaching staff, Paddy McCarthy and Ray Lewington, take that game and then Glasner comes in.

“It’s a difficult situation for Palace from a PR perspective. There were very worrying scenes when Roy was taken ill at training in front of his players and coaching staff. Steve Parish accompanied Roy to hospital.

“The last update we had from Palace was that he was in a stable condition. It’s not a good look for a football club to announce a new manager when the current incumbent is in his hospital bed.

“They could do without this situation ahead of such a huge game, because if they lose it then they are only two points above the relegation zone.”
