“Hell.” That was how veteran midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta described the last week for her and her Kansas City Current teammates. Of course, now, she said it with a smile and a laugh, but even the ever-positive LaBonta clearly felt it was important to share the highs and lows of the team’s first long road swing of the National Women’s Soccer League season.

The trouble began on their way to Houston for a May 5 match against the Dash. LaBonta said the team was separated through flight delays on the short trip from Kansas City, which can clock in at as low as two hours.

Their luck — and unpredictable spring weather — followed them to the pitch, causing a delay of nearly four hours before the Current escaped with a 1–1 draw.

That’s when things went really haywire.
