Dana Carvey’s oldest son Dex Carvey’s official cause of death has been revealed more than two months after he passed away at age 32.

Dex died from an accidental drug overdose, according to a report by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner obtained by People Tuesday.

He had fentanyl, ketamine and cocaine in his system at the time of his death.

In November 2023, Dana and his wife, Paula Zwagerman, announced in a heartbreaking joint statement that their son had died.

“Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy. Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old,” they wrote via Instagram.

“Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things — music, art, film making, comedy — and pursued all of them passionately.”

The “Wayne’s World” star, 68, and Zwagerman said their late son made people love life, but “most of all, he loved his family, his friends and his girlfriend, Kaylee.”

“Dex was a beautiful person. His handmade birthday cards are a treasure. We will miss him forever,” they continued.

The pair concluded their statement by offering their “prayers” to “anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction.”

On Nov. 15, first responders found Dex unresponsive inside a locked bathroom after his girlfriend called for assistance.

Days after Dex’s unexpected death, Dana took to social media to thank his fans for their love and support.

“This is just to say thank you,” the former “Saturday Night Live” comedian tweeted. “My wife and I have been overwhelmed by your love, your personal stories, your compassion.”

Dana said he and his family received so many “beautiful messages” from people who knew his late son, which have touched them “more than [they] could ever express in words.”

The “Dana Carvey Show” alum shared that he would be taking a “break from work and social media” so he, his wife and their 31-year-old son, Thomas, can “try to figure out what life looks like now” as a trio.

Last week, Dana returned to work after the hiatus, saying on his podcast that he has been on the “pain train” since the tragic loss.
