Barcelona suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Real Madrid last night in the finals of the Spanish Super Cup.

The loss and the manner of it cast manager Xavi Hernandez in a bad light owing to some of his tactical choices and team selection on Sunday night.

As such, the pressure is growing on the 43-year-old club legend, with some section of fans calling for his removal while doubts have grown within some members of the club’s board for a while now as well.

Barcelona decide to continue with Xavi

Despite last night’s heartbreak and the general underperformance in recent games, TV3 is reporting that Barcelona have decided to continue with Xavi as their manager.

Indeed, as per the report, the continuity of Xavi is not a topic of discussion despite the manner of defeat on Sunday that too against the club’s arch-rivals.

It is further claimed that Barcelona president Joan Laporta has complete trust in the former midfielder even though he is disappointed by the result from last night in Saudi Arabia.

As such, the matter of Xavi’s future will not be a topic of debate within the club despite growing doubts.

Barcelona director Deco, too, reiterated the stance after the game last night, as he said: “Xavi? The question does not make any sense. The coach continues to have everyone’s trust. It is a defeat that does not change anything in that aspect.”

Xavi signed a new contract with Barcelona until the summer of 2025 with an option for an additional year.

A decision on his continuity will likely be made at the end of the season, depending on how the rest of the campaign goes for Barcelona, with the club still competing in La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Champions League.
