The Barcelona board will have several important decisions to make as it gears up for a summer of change.

However, given the current financial limitations, Barcelona’s hands are essentially tied, as far as the market is concerned.

That is where Deco comes into the fray. A recent report from Diario SPORT has offered a comprehensive detail on the Barcelona sporting director’s squad building plans for the years to come.

Reliance on young players

As per the report, Barcelona’s objective under Deco is to build the squad around talented, homegrown players.

The Catalans have no other alternatives due to the club’s economic limitations, which have only gotten worse over the past few months. They must rely on young academy products to steer the club through these tough times.

It must be noted that Barcelona have appeared quite lucky to unearth not one but four academy talents this season, in the form of Lamine Yamal, Marc Guiu, Pau Cubarsi and Hector Fort.

All of them look promising talents and have accumulated a combined total of over 3,000 minutes for Barça this season.

We can expect the club to count on these talents going forward, which is perhaps why the Blaugrana are keen on nailing down their long-term futures at Camp Nou.

Summer clearout on the horizon?

In addition to relying more on young players, Barcelona must undergo a summer clearout once again and get rid of players who have made very little impact.

Barça’s plan could be to generate revenue through the sales of unwanted stars in the coming summer and use that money to bring in more experienced stars who can guide these youngsters.

Players such as Ilkay Gundogan and Robert Lewandowski, for example, were strategic acquisitions. They are signed not only for their skill but also their experience and leadership.

We can expect Barcelona to follow a similar formula in the coming summer, although the Catalans’ options might be more limited.
