Tom Heaton has signed a new one-year deal with Manchester United.
The 38-year-old, who came through the youth ranks at United, returned to the club in 2021 as a third-choice goalkeeper.
It is understood that Heaton turned down offers from other clubs to remain at United.
Speaking to club media after the deal was confirmed this afternoon, Heaton said: “I am delighted to continue my stay at my boyhood club. I still feel in great shape and I am ready to offer whatever the squad needs throughout the season ahead.
“In addition to on the pitch, I’m learning so much off it for my next steps, whatever that may be. But, first and foremost, I want to push the squad to build on our successes from last season.”
After winning three England caps, Heaton is currently away with Gareth Southgate’s squad as a training goalkeeper at Euro 2024.
Heaton is doing his coaching badges but feels he still has something to offer – as a player – at the highest level.
Last season, Heaton was third-choice behind Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.
Since his re-arrival at United, Heaton has made three appearances for the club. He did not make a single appearance last season, with his most recent outing the Carabao Cup semi-final win over Nottingham Forest in February 2023.
