Senegal’s winger, Krepin Diatta, may potentially face disciplinary measures for accusing the Confederation of African Football (CAF) of corruption following their elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations. The reigning champions were defeated by Ivory Coast in a penalty shootout on Monday.

Expressing his frustration as he left the stadium in the Ivorian capital Yamoussoukro, Diatta declared, “You have killed us. You are corrupt. Keep your African Cup,” in an outburst overheard by reporters.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, and Ivory Coast secured a 5-4 victory on penalties. Diatta’s anger stemmed from the referee’s decision not to award Senegal a penalty early in the second half when Ismaila Sarr was brought down in the box by Ivory Coast’s Odilon Kossounou. Despite Senegal leading 1-0 at the time, the referee did not point to the spot or review the incident on the pitchside monitor.

Diatta expressed his dismay, stating, “You go to the VAR to give them a penalty, while our guy (Sarr) picks up the ball 40 metres from goal, goes on a run into the box, and you don’t want to go to the VAR? I’m sorry, but that is going too far. I am really sorry, but they have killed our competition.”

Ivory Coast, unhappy with Sadio Mane escaping with only a yellow card for a dangerous challenge, later equalized with a penalty awarded after a VAR check. Despite the controversy, Ivory Coast advanced to the quarter-final and will face Mali or Burkina Faso in Bouake on Saturday, with the latter match taking place later on Tuesday.
