The guidelines for the Grihajyoti scheme, which provides free electricity, will be announced soon. In the first phase, free electricity will be given to those who have electricity connections linked to their ration card, Aadhaar card, and cell phone number. Government officials are currently collecting evidence and verifying these details.
Out of the applications received for free electricity, 30% of them were found to have incorrect or missing information regarding their ration card, Aadhaar card, and cell phone number. As a result, officials are going door to door to collect the correct details. It was also discovered that 10 lakh applicants do not have original ration cards, and they will not be eligible for free electricity in the first phase.

In Greater Hyderabad, there are 49.50 lakh electricity connections. However, only 19.85 lakh people have applied for free electricity, even though 30 lakh connections consume less than 200 units of electricity per month. Out of these applications, 5 lakh do not have proper ration card details. Additionally, around 10 lakh people did not apply at all. Therefore, the government has decided to provide free electricity only to connections where all Aadhaar, ration card, and cell phone numbers are linked in the first phase.
