Whew! Doechii can’t even blink without sending the internet into a meltdown. The rap girlie of the moment has been on a steady glow-up since Alligator Bites Never Heal, but some people just can’t handle a talented woman winning without controversy. And when there isn’t any? Well, they create it.

Lately, the word on the timeline is that Doechii is an “industry plant” (yawn), but now, the conspiracy theories have leveled up. The latest hot take? That she’s pushing an LGBTQ+ agenda (whatever that means) and somehow using her success to torment straight men. (if only).
The ‘Red Flag’ Heard Around the Internet
The outrage machine kicked into full gear this weekend after a clip of Doechii on First We Feast went viral. During the interview, she casually told her DJ, Miss Milan, that a major dating red flag for her is… straight men.
And that’s all it took. Cue the meltdown.
Men who religiously listen to rappers who degrade women suddenly had thoughts about “respect” and “equality.”
Apparently, some people (read: fragile, insecure men) have no problem when male rappers dedicate entire albums to calling women out their name, but one woman saying she’s not into straight dudes? OH, IT’S WAR.

Suddenly, she was being accused of:
– Hating men
– Being a government experiment designed to turn rap into a safe space for queer people (??)
– Being an “industry plant” whose success is tied to a secret LGBTQ+ agenda
One particularly unhinged corner of the internet even labeled her a “bell hooks baby”, as if being associated with one of the greatest Black feminist thinkers of all time is an insult. (If that’s the case, sign me up!).
Let’s Be Real… Why Are Y’all Mad?
If people simply didn’t like her music, that would be one thing. But that’s not what’s happening here. The loudest critics aren’t talking about her bars, her creative vision, or her talent—they’re upset about her identity, her confidence, and the fact that she refuses to pander to the male gaze.
Because here’s the gag:
If a male rapper said his dating red flag was “broke women”, nobody would bat an eye. If a male rapper said his red flag was “women who ask for relationship advice on Twitter”, it would be a “hot take.” But a queer Black woman saying she’s not vibing with straight men? IT’S AN AGENDA.
The Real ‘Agenda’? Women Not Playing By the Old Rules
The real reason these dudes are spiraling is because hip-hop is shifting. More women, more queer artists, more creativity, less tolerance for the toxic masculinity that ran unchecked for decades. Doechii isn’t part of some sinister plan—she’s just a talented woman thriving in an industry that isn’t used to women doing it on their terms.
So, is Doechii an industry plant? Nope.
Is she pushing an agenda? If being unapologetically herself is an agenda, then yes, and we love to see it.
And to the men in their feelings over her comments? Maybe… I don’t know… just be better?
