Donald Trump's Hush Money Sentencing Postponed Until After the Election - Find Out Why

Former President Donald Trump‘s sentencing in his hush money case has been delayed until after the election.

The 78-year-old politician was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records in May 2024. The charges had to do with a payment made to Stormy Daniels to cover up an alleged affair.

He was due to be sentenced on September 18. While experts thought it unlikely, it was reported that he could receive a maximum of four years in jail for each offense.

On Friday (September 6), a judge agreed to push back the sentencing. A new date and the reason for the decision were revealed.

According to reporting by AP, the sentencing will take place on November 26 now. This is several weeks after the election, which takes place on November 5 and sees Donald facing off against Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.

Manhattan Judge Juan M. Merchan made the decision, explaining that it was “to avoid any appearance — however unwarranted — that the proceeding has been affected by or seeks to affect the approaching presidential election in which the Defendant is a candidate.”

“The Court is a fair, impartial, and apolitical institution,” he said.

Donald‘s team pushed for the delay, implying that sentencing him would interfere in the election. His team is also pushing to have the case dismissed.
