Donnarumma, a case that is really debated

The Italian international has never managed to achieve unanimous support since his arrival at PSG in 2021. What if he was no longer the man for the job in the Ile-de-France goals?

Even if Gianluigi Donnarumma was crowned best goalkeeper in the championship during the UNFP Trophies, his case is far from unanimous. During the French Cup final between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais, the Italian international did not appear to be impressive in the air, particularly on set pieces.

For Daniel Riolo, the former AC Milan player is not at all reassuring in big matches. “In the Champions League, there are moments that PSG very rarely experiences in Ligue 1 and more so in the Champions League. When it’s boiling, the pressure is felt. It is in these moments that one particularly feels one’s weakness in aerial sorties. He has regressed in this area. You don’t see other top goalkeepers who have these shortcomings.”noted the sports journalist on RMC.

Donnarumma, his agent steps up to the plate

Recurring criticisms that make the transalpine doorman’s agent jump. “Donnarumma has become an attraction for social networks, for fake news. But what matters are only the results and he is among the best goalkeepers in the world,” estimated Mino Raiola on Tuttosport.

Still, the leaders of the capital club began looking for a new goalkeeper. The Russian Matvey Safonov would be on the verge of signing for the Rouge et Bleu, for an amount of 20 million euros, and could compete with Donnarumma from next season.
