The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Integrity Group, also referred to as the G-5, gathered in jubilation following the outcome of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday.
Notable figures including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, former Governor Samuel Ortom, former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, and Governor Ifeanyi Uguwanyi of Enugu State were seen celebrating the NEC meeting’s results in Abuja.
They sang songs including Wike’s popular ”I nye ndi ebe a, i nye ndi ebe a” which means in Igbo language, ”If you give to people from this place, give to people from the other place”. They danced as they sang while rejoicing with Wike- the main man.
The PDP convened its 98th NEC meeting at its National Headquarters in Abuja, with a significant presence of party stalwarts.
Despite plots to remove the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Iliya Damagum, who has the backing of Wike and his camp, the removal plot failed during the NEC meeting as he was told to continue to hold that top post. The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) previously expressed confidence in the leadership of Damagum. This affirmation was communicated by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.
Damagum assumed the role following the removal of Iyorchia Ayu in the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election. Given that Damagun survived the removal plot against him, that development prompted celebration among the G-5 Governors.
