Drew McIntyre and CM Punk have been locked in a heated feud throughout 2024. The rivalry is set to come to a head when they clash at WWE SummerSlam.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Drew McIntyre discussed the perception that his match against CM Punk was the true main event of WWE SummerSlam. He also highlighted how personal rivalries were where the money was at. (H/t Jeremy Lambert of Fightful for the transcription)

“That means a lot. I heard it a few times since I got here,” Drew McIntyre said. “The fans were asked, they didn’t even know I was there, ‘What do you think the main event should be?’ They said, ‘Punk and McIntyre.’ The deep, layered storytelling we can do it. Personal rivalries is where it’s at. That’s where the money is at. That’s what makes people feel. If they’re feeling something out of this Punk and McIntyre feud, they should because it’s real. It does mean a lot to me. If anyone is on after us, good luck, folks.”

Drew McIntyre On Keeping CM Punk Relevant

Drew McIntyre previously commented on how he felt like he kept Punk relevant while he was injured. Speaking with Denise Salcedo, McIntyre noted that he had given Punk too much attention.

“I’m starting to realize that I’ve given them too much attention,” Drew McIntyre admitted. “I’m the only one that’s kept him relevant. So I’m trying to ease up on that, because it is fun to tear him apart on social media, because he’s got zero comebacks, he knows I’ll shred him. And he learned even on the microphone; I shred him at his own game because in the ring, not that he ever had an athletic bone in his body in his prime.”

As fans have seen, Punk has stayed in the spotlight with his own actions, as he cost Drew McIntyre two major opportunities ahead of his in-ring return.

WrestlleZone will have coverage of WWE SummerSlam as it airs on August 3.
