As Barcelona continue their search for a new midfielder before the January transfer window closes, the name of Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips has emerged as a potential target.

The 28-year-old England international has found minutes extremely hard to come by under Pep Guardiola and is keen on making a move away in order to play regularly and make it to the Three Lions’ squad for the UEFA Euro 2024.

Phillips has no shortage of suitors either, with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Newcastle United, Juventus, and West Ham United among the clubs looking to sign him.

Phillips open to joining Barcelona

Now, SPORT is claiming that Kalvin Phillips would be open to leaving Manchester City to sign for Barcelona in the ongoing transfer window.

As per the report, the midfielder, whose market value stands at €28 million, looks favourably at the option of playing for Barcelona on loan from the Cityzens from the remainder of the current season.

The Blaugrana are keeping themselves informed about any developments on his situation at the Etihad Stadium as he is seen as a serious option to bolster the midfield.

As reported earlier today, Barcelona sporting director Deco is an admirer of Phillips. Beyond that, it is claimed that the club’s sporting staff have studied the 28-year-old’s profile and see him as a player who can have a positive impact.

Phillips prepared to wait for Barcelona

The report goes on to state that Phillips would be willing to leave England if it meant he joins Barcelona. Furthermore, the midfielder is aware of the club’s financial situation and would be prepared to wait until next week for the club to get things in order.

As it stands, Barça will only be able to sign and register a new player if there is cash injection. With the payment from Libero not coming through, the Catalans are looking at other investors, with talks in advanced stages with two parties.

Things could speed up over the next few days and an agreement for the sale of part of the Barça Studios could be finalised, which would open the door for a new signing.

Phillips, for his part, is aware of the situation and is prepared to wait for a week. However, the Man City ace won’t risk holding back until the last few days of the market.
