Newcastle United believe they are going to push for European qualification after an impressive 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.
The result puts added pressure on Manchester United before our 5.30 pm kick-off against Bournemouth, as Newcastle overtake the Reds in sixth place.
Two strikes from Alexander Isak along with goals from Anthony Gordon and Fabian Schar saw The Magpies record a convincing win against a Spurs side sat fourth in the table. United and Aston Villa will now look to take advantage of that result by winning their matches this weekend.
Villa have a tough fixture tomorrow as they travel away to title contenders Arsenal, so this could be a good weekend for Ten Hag’s side to make ground in the race for a Champions League spot. Fingers and toes crossed.
After temporarily overtaking United in the Premier League table, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was asked whether he could make history by finishing above the Reds this season.
Newcastle have never finished above United in the Premier League era.
Howe responded via Shields Gazette: “Who knows, we’ve just got to keep doing our bit which is trying to win every game.
“We’re hopefully returning to somewhere near our best and we’ve got to keep heading in that direction.”
Newcastle have six games remaining between now and the end of the season, including a trip to Old Trafford.
