Eddie Howe watched on as his Newcastle United team absolutely destroyed Tottenham.
The United boss getting his tactics absolutely spot on.
The visitors couldn’t handle the excellent AND brave high press that the Newcastle United players put into action so well.
Eddie Howe absolutely schooling Ange Postecoglou, despite Newcastle having more than a team’s worth of first team squad players not available to start.
As always, win or lose, Eddie Howe very honest with his post-match appraisal.
Eddie Howe speaking after the 4-0 win over Tottenham:
“It was a great performance from us.
“I thought the players executed everything in a really professional, diligent way.
“Really pleased with the players.
“We protected the lead really well because we went for more goals and were aggressive still.
“We looked in a really great place physically, were able to execute what we wanted to do, and I think everyone performed at a very good level.
“Tottenham are unique in what they do and we felt that we needed to change to give ourselves the best chance of what we wanted to do.
“I thought tactically it worked.
“It was a really good delivery from the players, they always deserve the praise for the execution.
“Our concentration levels were really good.”
Eddie Howe asked how how deep the Newcastle players have had to dig with so many players missing for so long:
“Incredibly deep.
“I have complimented the players all season, that the guys who have been fit for the whole season, have carried the burden and have been outstanding.
“The mentality to the challenge has never wavered.
“We have had some difficult moments but they have come through them.
“Hopefully we can stay in relatively good shape between now and the end of the season and continue to pick up points.”
Eddie Howe on getting back-to-back wins:
“I think that is why winning when you don’t play well is such a skill and can’t be underestimated, because you will have your days when everything does go your way and I think we showed today that we can still be a very efficient team, ruthless with our attacking, very diligent and compact.
“Everything came together and we deservedly won.”
Eddie Howe asked whether Newcastle United can finish above Man U:
“Who knows?
“We have just got to keep doing our bit, trying to win every game.
“We are hopefully returning to somewhere near our best and we have got to keep heading in that direction.”
Eddie Howe on Fabian Schar:
“This season we have really needed him.
“He has been the constant in the team and he has been incredible on the ball.
“It’s no good though being on the ball if you are not defensively at the highest level, but he has been, his attitude to defending has been excellent and he deserves a lot of credit for his performances.”
Eddie Howe on squad players getting their chance:
“I think the emergence of some of the players people wouldn’t have thought would have played, will hopefully serve us well for the next few years. Elliott Anderson was excellent, he has been trying to burst into the team and stay in the team.”
