The Ring of Honor World Champion Eddie Kingston was recently interviewed by Adrian Hernandez. During the interview, The Mad King revealed that the arrival of talent such as Will Ospreay and Kazuchika Okada motivates him, and is glad they are in All Elite Wrestling.
Eddie Kingston mentioned that he told Will Ospreay in person the same. Despite the arrival of top tier talents, the goal for the Mad King remains the same. His goal is to be the World Champion of the Jacksonville-based promotion.
“I told Will Ospreay, ‘You motivate me.’ That’s right. I said, ‘Thank God you’re here.’ Guys like him and (Kazuchika) Okada motivate me. Because now I gotta be better than I was the other day because there’s new competition. The goal is still the same is to be the World Champion. I’m the Ring of Honor World Champion, I was the Continental Crown Champion, I’m the New Japan STRONG Openweight Champion but the goal is to always be the — I hate it when they say ‘AEW World Champion’ because it’s not just AEW, it’s the World Championship.” [H/T POST Wrestling]
Eddie Kingston needs to step up his game
While speaking in the same interview, The Mad King shared that the more talented stars sign with AEW, the more motivated Eddie Kingston is to become a better wrestler than he already is.
“And with the competition coming in, I gotta step up or get out the way, and not complain about it either, you know what I mean? It just is what it is. I can control me. So I gotta step up, so I love it. Bring more people in. I don’t care. As long as they’re better than me and it makes me step my game up, I’m all about it. Don’t bring in any clowns that are just gonna be there to play wrestler. I want guys who are gonna go in there and fight me, because I’ll be in there with Will, I’ll get in there again with Okada. So, I like it. Competition is what makes the business thrive. You need competition. If you don’t have competition then you can do whatever you want and a lot of things you do are gonna be sh*tty because you have no one to fight up against,” Eddie Kingston said.
