EdF: Benjamin Pavard was surprised to play right back

In the spirit of Didier Deschamps, Benjamin Pavard is leaving to be a substitute for the France team during this Euro 2024. The Inter player did not play much during these two preparation matches. He only appeared for half an hour against Luxembourg (3-0) replacing Jules Koundé. He then occupied the position of right-back, even though the coach had said of him that he would study the possibility of playing him in the center of defense. Asked about this at a press conference, Pavard instead used humor as a form of response, recalling that he was above all on the bench.

“It’s starting strong (laughs). Currently I’m more on the left side bench (laughs)”, jokes the player with 54 caps (5 goals). He doesn’t admit defeat for the competition either. “I adapt to what the coach asks of me. We’ll see, I’m ready physically and mentally. I’m ready to be on the bench or play. (…) With the coach, it remains private. He knows that if he calls on me, I will respond. Currently I’m not playing, but I’m staying positive. It’s up to me to respond. (…) I’m versatile. I can have a very good level whether as a central or full-back. »
