Ex-lawmaker from Osun State, Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye
A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has commended President Bola Tinubu for acting promptly before the total breakdown in law and order in Rivers State.
Oyintiloye, who was referring to the declaration of a state of emergency by the President, said Tinubu should be commended for demonstrating ‘love for lives and properties of the residents of Rivers State,’ by quickly acting to keep civil order intact in the state.
The onetime lawmaker who represented Obokun State Constituency in Osun State House of Assembly between 2015 and 2019 made this known in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Thursday.
He insisted that the emergency rule by the President which led to the suspension of Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Mrs. Ngozi Odu, and all members of the state House of Assembly, was a right move by Tinubu to ensure peace.
According to him, the President ‘acted in good faith’ to stop the unhealthy political atmosphere in Rivers from degenerating into a serious calamity that could have led to further destruction of lives and properties in the state.
“This bold step is to restore peace to Rivers State and it must not be politicized. This is not the first time such an action will be taken. Since the return of democracy to Nigeria in 1999, Tinubu is the third president to invoke Section 305 of the Constitution. Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo did twice in Plateau 2004 and Ekiti 2006 during his eight-year tenure while
“Former President Goodluck Jonathan toed this path in Adamawa, Yobe, and Borno States at the peak of insurgency in 2013.
“So this can not be seen as a move to hound the elected government of Rivers State, but the act restoring peace and good governance back to the state. The President deserves commendation and support,” Oyintiloye said.
He appealed to stakeholders in Rivers State to cooperate with the newly appointed administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas, to ensure peace reigns during his time.
