Manchester United are keen on signing the Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt.

The 24-year-old central defender has been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga club this summer and Erik ten Hag remains an admirer. He worked with the defender during their time together at Ajax and Ten Hag is keen on a reunion.

According to Christian Falk on CaughtOffside, the Manchester United manager would be willing to pay a premium for the talented defender. Bayern Munich are holding out for a fee of around €70 million, but Manchester United are looking to sign him for a knockdown price. It will be interesting to see if the two clubs can reach an agreement in the coming weeks.

De Ligt would improve Man United

Manchester United conceded 58 goals in the Premier League last season and it is evident that they need to improve in that department. The Dutch international defender could make a big difference for them and he could help them tighten up defensively.

Bayern Munich are under pressure to sell some players so that they can bring in their own signings and it remains to be seen whether Manchester United can take advantage of the situation.

The 24-year-old central defender has proven himself in the Bundesliga and he has the physical and technical attributes to succeed in the Premier League as well. He will look to establish himself as a player for Manchester United if the transfer goes through. De Ligt is well versed with Erik ten Hag’s philosophy, and he should be able to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact at Old Trafford.
