Manchester City striker Erling Haaland equalled a seven-year unwanted record after missing nine chances against Chelsea.

The 23-year-old failed to add to his 16 Premier League goals this season as the Citizens dropped two points in the 1-1 draw at the Etihad.

Rodri cancelled out Raheem Sterling's first half opener, but the hosts could have claimed all three points if Haaland had his shooting boots on.

The Norway international had chances to score in both halves, but couldn't find the back of the net from his nine attempts.

In doing so, he has become the first City player since Sergio Aguero in 2017 to fail to score from that many shots.

From his efforts, the ex-Borussia Dortmund marksman had an xG of 1.71.

And unsurprisingly, it is his highest total without getting himself on the score sheet.

Commenting on Haaland's wastefulness after the match, Pep Guardiola refused to criticise his star man.

He told Sky Sports: "I played 11 years [at Barcelona] and scored 11 goals so I can't give too much advice to Erling.

"The next one he will score. In the first half we didn't perform well and that's what we have to improve."

After an explosive start to the campaign, Haaland has now scored twice in his last six top-flight matches.

Those goals came in last week's 2-0 win against Everton, where he showed just how clinical he can be.

City's draw now leaves them third in the table - two points behind Arsenal in second and four behind leaders Liverpool.

And despite having a game in hand, City know that victory will not see them return to the summit of the Premier League.
