Andy Goldstein and Darren Bent were left stunned when one Everton fan made a left-field suggestion for Sean Dyche's replacement.

The Toffees made the abrupt decision to sack Dyche just a few hours before their FA Cup third round clash with Peterborough, with the search for his replacement already underway.

While David Moyes is the current frontrunner for the job, fans have been giving their suggestions for who should step into the dugout at Goodison Park.

One fan named Colin called talkSPORT Drive to give his views on Dyche's sacking, before suggesting the son of a legendary former manager to take the reins.

Speaking to Goldstein and Bent, Colin said: "I’m absolutely buzzing. He [Dyche] had to go, he took the club as far as he could take us.

“Everton needs to stop going backwards, they need to step forwards.

“When you sack a manager you look at Wolves and they’ve gone and got two results back to back, they played against Nottingham Forest and they were half-decent even though they got beaten 3-0.

“Under Dyche I didn’t know where the next result was coming from.

“I think they’ve already got somebody lined up for the job – I personally think it’s Jose Mourinho, but I’m not up for that myself.

“If ever there was person I’d have at the club and I’m going to throw a right name in the hat here, it’s Davide Ancelotti.”

Asked if he meant Carlo Ancelotti, Colin replied: “No Davide, his son.

“His son has been with Carlo for years as his number two, he’s learnt the trade and I’ve watched some of his coaching techniques and I think that he’s one for the future. What a coach.”

Responding to Colin’s suggestion, Bent said: “Okay, so maybe he’s not one for right now. If you were picking one for right now, who would it be?”

To which Colin replied: “Lee Carsley.

“Mr Everton is at the club right now in Seamus Coleman. You heard Frank Lampard talk about Seamus Coleman and the way he spoke in the changing rooms, he’s Mr Everton.

“You just need him in that changing room with Lee Carsley and that’ll get us to the end of the season.”

Clearly surprised, Andy Goldstein said: “Where have you seen his [Davide's] training methods,” to which Colin said: “On YouTube, you can see Real Madrid’s training techniques and him taking training.”

Bent replied: “Colin, you might be ahead of the curve there,” before Goldstein said: “Blimey, Colin. You’ve done your homework. Good work.”

Colin was right, Davide Ancelotti has worked as Carlo's no.2 for a number of years including time with Bayern Munich and Napoli.

He followed him to Everton in 2019 and stayed for the entirety of Ancelotti's reign at Goodison Park before heading with his father to the Bernabeu where he currently works as his assistant for Real Madrid.

Having achieved his pro licence in July 2023, Ancelotti Jr is ready to take that next step into management, however it remains to be seen when, or if, he'll choose to do so on his own.
