A familiar face?

David Moyes is a leading contender to be Everton manager, talkSPORT understands.

The Scottish boss has been out of work since leaving his role at West Ham at the end of last season but would be interested in a move to replace Sean Dyche.

Moyes previously spent 11 years in charge at Goodison Park between 2002 and 2011 when he left to take charge of Manchester United.

In that time he famously guided Everton to fourth spot in the Premier League and earned them Champions League football.

Utter woke nonsense

Sean Dyche has been sacked as Everton manager after just under two years in charge, talkSPORT understands.

The 53-year-old becomes the sixth Premier League manager to leave their role this season.

Dyche leaves Goodison Park with the Toffees 16th in the table, just a point above the relegation zone.

During his tenure, Everton won 26 of their 83 matches across all competitions, with Dyche guiding them to safety in the last two seasons.

However, he oversaw a run of one win in his last 11 matches as manager as goals dried up for the Toffees.

Dyche now leaves the club just hours before tonight's FA Cup third-round tie against Peterborough, live on talkSPORT.

Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman are set to take charge of tonight's match at Goodison Park.

Cherry picked

Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing is wanted by Napoli on loan, talkSPORT understands.

The Cherries are reluctant to lose the Danish international but he is frustrated at a lack of playing time.

The 28-year-old has started just one Premier League match this season and played eight minutes during the 1-0 win over Everton.

Hall of Fame

West Ham's former record signing Sebastien Haller is completing an emotional transfer return to rejoin FC Utrecht.

The striker, who played for Utrecht from 2015 to 2017, spent the first half of the season on loan at Leganes from Borussia Dortmund.

However, the Ivory Coast international struggled for 'The cucumbers' having failed to score a single goal in eight La Liga appearances.

The 30-year-old has now headed back to the Netherlands on loan with Utrecht until the end of the season.

Haller said: "I'm happy to be back, it feels like home.

"I've had a lot of positive reactions. What am I doing here? What do you think? Scoring goals of course."

Forest fire

Nottingham Forest plans to trigger a one-year contract extension in defender Ola Aina’s contract, talkSPORT understands.

The high-flying Tricky Trees are also in advanced talks with top-scorer Chris Wood and influential defender Murillo about committing their futures to the club.

Throw Hat-ters in the ring

Rob Edwards has officially left Championship club Luton Town by mutual consent, as talkSPORT revealed earlier this week.

The 42-year-old had been under huge pressure at Kenilworth Road amid fears the club could suffer shock back-to-back relegations.

A host of former Premier League bosses have since been installed as potential candidates to replace Edwards.

Steve Cooper has been out of work since being sacked by Leicester but has Championship promotion experience with Nottingham Forest.

Gary O'Neil has been waiting on his next move following his Wolves exit, with a potential third stint at West Ham now unavailable for David Moyes following Graham Potter's unveiling.

Mour fool you

Everton have been warned that Jose Mourinho would not be the right appointment if Sean Dyche is sacked.

The Special One has been linked with taking over at Goodison Park should Dyche lose his job.

Mourinho, who has already publicly voiced his desire to manage in England again, was hired by new Toffees owners The Friedkin Group at Roma - where he guided the club to Europa Conference League success in 2022.

However, speaking live on talkSPORT's White & Jordan, Simon Jordan warned against returning for the Fenerbahce boss.

He said: “I don’t know. I mean he’s not setting the heather on fire is he with where he is now?

“The brand of football, if that’s a complaint, I don’t see how that’s going to change with Mourinho because he’s not known for being the most exciting and attacking manager.

“It didn’t end brilliantly at Roma with him, I don’t know what the state of his relationship is with Dan Friedkin and his guys.

“I don’t see it because Mourinho normally likes to be in a situation where he has an opportunity to be cock of the walk and he’s not going to have that with Everton.

“It would certainly make a statement, I’m not sure what statement it would be making in terms of you’ve got one of the leading recognisable managers who was once upon a time arguably the best manager in world football, he’s not anymore. Times moved on, nothing lasts forever.

“I think he’s still a compelling individual and he’ll provide eyes on the prize and he’ll get the media at it and he’ll get certain aspects of Everton at it and then he’ll probably bring his usual brand of disruption because he won’t be able to get what he wants, when he wants it, how he wants it and Everton will struggle.

“I don’t think it’s the right appointment for them, I don’t think it’s probably the right appointment for Mourinho.”

Saintly signing

Southampton have confirmed the signing of 18-year-old defender Joachim Kayi Sanda from Valenciennes.

He told the Saint's website: "I’m really happy to be here. I think this is a great city and a great club.

"I’ve been given a very warm welcome and I’m proud to represent this club.

"I hadn’t planned for it to come so quickly but it was in the back of my mind as a career goal and I’ve managed to achieve it early on.

"The club’s DNA in terms of improving young players and everything about the project convinced me to come here."

Bentancur update

Tottenham medical staff will reportedly make regular home checks on Rodrigo Bentancur over the coming days.

According to the Daily Mail, the midfielder will not be permitted back to the club’s training HQ until he is given the medical green light to return.

Bentancur was taken to hospital during Tottenham's win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

The Uruguayan posted a positive update on Instagram following the 1-0 win, alongside long-term partner Melany La Blanca.

He wrote: "All good, guys! Thank you for the messages!!! Congratulations for the victory boys!!!"

Sunderland spend record Fee

Sunderland have agreed to sign Enzo Le Fee from Roma, talkSPORT understands.

The midfielder is set to complete a move to the Black Cats just six months after joining Roma from Rennes.

Le Fee will join a Sunderland side who are fourth in the Championship and in contention for promotion to the Premier League.

He will initially sign on loan, but there is a £20million obligation to buy included in the deal should they return to the English top flight.

If promoted, the move would become one of the most expensive completed by a newly-promoted Premier League side.

Le Fee's £20m figure would move him level with the money Aston Villa paid for Tyrone Mings, Taylor Harwood-Bellis's move to Southampton, Nottingham Forest's capture of Emmanuel Denis and Oliver Skipp's move to Leicester last summer.

Only five other players have gone for higher figures at a newly-promoted Premier League club in their first summer window.

Rash decision

West Ham have asked to be kept informed on Marcus Rashford's situation, talkSPORT understands.

The Hammers would consider a loan move for Manchester United outcast Rashford but know he is more likely to join a top European side.

The Irons famously revived the career of the England international's close friend and former teammate Jesse Lingard.

The latter similarly found his Old Trafford tenure at a crossroads when he joined West Ham on loan during the 2020/21 campaign.

Lingard proved a revelation at the London Stadium, scoring nine goals and contributing six assists in 16 appearances.

Lingard returned to his parent club that summer, before joining Nottingham Forest in 2022, and now plays for FC Seoul in South Korea.

Rashford meanwhile has a number of Europe's biggest clubs queuing up to sign him on loan, with AC Milan making the first move over a potential move.

talkSPORT understands the Red Devils are resigned to the fact they cannot sell Rashford this month and a loan deal is their only option.

Wolves complete signing

Wolves have completed the signing of Emmanuel Agbadou in a £16.6million deal from Reims.

The 27-year-old defender becomes Vitor Pereira's first signing at the club.

The centre-back has signed a four-and-a-half year deal at Molineux, with the option of an extra 12 months.

"Emmanuel's a winner and he's driven," said Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs.

"After the journey's had, he's still unbelievably hungry. He's the type of player the Wolves fans should love, because you're going to get absolutely everything he's got.

"When Vitor came in it's the first conversation we had, to add one quick. There are so many games in January, so you can't afford to waste a month.

"We have to use this month to be as efficient as possible, and we're really excited about this signing."

Reis will cost over £30 million and has been eyed by several other Premier League clubs including Wolves.

TalkSPORT revealed on Wednesday that City have also made contact with Lens over a move for defender Abdukodir Khusanov.

Uzbekistan international Khusanov, also shortlisted by Tottenham, is valued in excess of £30m by the French club.

Postecoglou aims 'It's Coming Home' dig

Ange Postecoglou referenced the song 'Three Lions' when he made a fresh point about refereeing in England following Tottenham's 1-0 win over Liverpool.

The Spurs boss insisted everyone misconstrued his 'all things being equal' comments which made headlines last weekend.

Speaking after the club's 2-1 defeat to Newcastle, Postecoglou claimed that 'had all things been equal and balanced, we would've won'.

The ex-Celtic gaffer has since attempted to clarify what he meant in light of the backlash after the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.

The Australian even referenced 1996's 'Three Lions' by Baddiel and Skinner and the Lightning Seeds - which has become synonymous the England team but has drew criticism of arrogance from rivals.

"I spoke about it after the game last time, I think my comments were misinterpreted," Postecoglou began. "I didn't criticise the referee or the decision. I didn't think the decision was right about the handball. But I said, it's very hard at the moment, it's very confusing, to understand certain elements of the game.

"Now we've been told consistently in the last few weeks, because I've been screaming about it from the sidelines, because a lot of teams have got away with a lot of fouls with us, without bookings, because the referee plays advantage. We've been told consistently that if we play advantage, as long as it's not a cynical foul, then the player does not get cautioned.

"So that's been relayed to us on a weekly basis. Because we feel like that's been happening. That's one of the things I was bemoaning last weekend. There's certain players who were repeatedly fouling, we were getting advantage, but no bookings. That's what I'm talking about."

Credit: AFP

Postecoglou then highlighted English football. "I'm really surprised at how, what's the word I'm looking for, how people in this country are so easily letting the game change so much so quickly," he continued.

"It's changed more since VAR has come in since I've been involved than in the past 50 years. We never used to debate offsides, we never used to debate handballs, we never used to debate holding in the box, we never used to debate so many things.

"I mean, did everyone really love the announcement today? Did that give you a real buzz about, you know, I mean, seriously, but now I'm, and again, look, I understand, my understanding of it is, this is what the people want. That's what I keep getting told.

"I understand that and I understand that, you know, we're not going to….VAR is going to be there, technology's gonna be a part of life, but it's like my wife and our kids. We know technology but she limits screen time. Why? You know, slow things down, I think.

"We've just got to be careful about constantly why do we want to change the game so much, and I know I'm going to be the old bloke in the stands that keep shouting 'boo' every time and I'll be the only one, but I just thought people would be a little bit more protective about the sanctity of the game.

"That's what I was talking about. I wasn't criticising referees, I wasn't. I've never criticised, I didn't think the decision was right, but it's just the way the game, I think there's a lot of confusion at the moment. That's my belief that the game is changing on the basis of technology, and I'm saying why isn't anyone speaking up about it?

"Especially in this country who, for all intents and purposes, you feel, you guys think you're custodians of the game, you've got a song that says 'it's coming home', this is your game, and yet it takes an Aussie from the other side of the world to be the one that's most conservative about changes."

Hammers go to Pott

West Ham have finally confirmed Graham Potter is their new manager.

It is the 49-year-old's first job in the dugout since leaving Chelsea in April 2023 and he joins the Hammers on a two-and-a-half year contract. Potter will take charge of his new team for the first time against Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Friday night.

Explaining his decision to wait so long for another coaching role, he said: “I am delighted to be here. It was important to me that I waited until a job came along that I felt was right for me, and equally that I was the right fit for the Club I am joining. That is the feeling I have with West Ham United.

“My conversations with the Chairman and the Board have been very positive and constructive, we share the same values of hard work and high energy to create the solid foundations that can produce success, and we are on the same wavelength in terms of what is needed in the short-term and then how we want to move the Club forward in the medium to long term.

“West Ham United is a huge Club, at the heart of London, with a tremendous fanbase and great support all around the world. I saw the scenes that followed their Europa Conference League victory in 2023 and it was clear that this is a Club with everything in place to become consistently successful, both on and off the pitch.

“The Club have made a lot of good progress in recent years and ensured there are some very strong foundations in place to build on. You don’t win a European trophy by fluke – there has to be a good bedrock at a football club for that to happen, and the challenge now is to take that on and build the next steps, to develop a team and a Club that the supporters can be proud of.”

His backroom team consists of Bruno as assistant coach, Billy Reid and Narcís Pèlach as first team coaches, while goalkeeper Coach Xavi Valero will stay on in his role.

After beginning his coaching career with university students, his first role in management came in Sweden at Östersund in 2010.

Swansea then appointed him in 2018 before a move to Premier League side Brighton in 2019 eventually led to Chelsea in 2022.

Jad enough

Ipswich have agreed a fee of £21million plus add-ons for Aston Villa winger Jaden Philogene, talkSPORT understands.

Philogene is set to undergo a medical on Thursday and Villa make a profit of at least £8m on the deal after paying Hull £13m for the 22-year-old in July.

Kieran McKenna is said to have been crucial in Philogene's decision to join the Tractor Boys.

He had previously been linked with a move to Portman Road in the summer before Villa triggered a buy-back clause to re-sign him.

Philogene has since made 15 appearances for the club, with four of them coming from the start.

The England under-21 international could make his Ipswich debut at home to Bristol Rovers on Sunday in the FA Cup.

Ron the move

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Gunners are preparing a bid for the Uruguayan.

Mikel Arteta's side are reportedly willing to launch a permanent move for Araujo this month.

The report adds that Arsenal would face competition from Italian giants Juventus.

Juve are said to be eyeing a loan move for Araujo until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old has entered the final 18 months of his Barca deal, which is set to expire in the summer of 2026.

So far this term, Araujo has made just one appearance due to a lengthy hamstring injury.

He returned to action on Saturday in the Copa del Rey, captaining his side to a 4-0 win over fourth tier Barbastro.

Forest eye Luiz

Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in signing Douglas Luiz this month.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side are amongst a number of clubs eyeing the Juventus midfielder, according to Relevo.

Luiz joined the Serie A side from Aston Villa in the summer but has failed to establish himself as a starter in Turin.

So far this season, the Brazilian has made 13 appearances without scoring or providing an assist.

Of those appearances, only two have come from the start and Luiz has played the full 90 minutes just once.

The 26-year-old previously made 175 Premier League appearances during five years with Villa.

He would be joining this season's surprise package with a move to the City Ground.

Forest are currently third in the Premier League after winning their last six matches under Nuno.

Development

Tottenham have stepped up their interest in Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani, talkSPORT understands.

Spurs have started talks with PSG over a deal for Kolo Muani, who cost the French giants £65million, in at attempt to see off interest from rival clubs including Manchester United.

PSG are willing to allow Kolo Muani to leave on an initial loan deal.

Paris-born Kolo Muani began his career with French club Nantes before completing a move to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurth in 2022.

He then went back to Paris to sign for the Ligue 1 giants but he's struggled to justify his hefty price tag.

The 26-year-old has scored just 11 goals in 54 appearances for them.

Malen latest

Aston Villa target Donyell Malen will continue to play for Borussia Dortmund, their manager has confirmed.

Nuri Sahin was asked about the Dutch winger's future ahead of Friday's Bundesliga clash with Bayer Leverkusen.

He told reporters: "Donny is part of the match selection and is also an option for the starting line-up.

"I see that he is very focused. If that were not the case, I would also find that remarkable."

Malen has been strongly linked with a move to Villa Park during the January transfer window.

talkSPORT understands that the former Arsenal youth star has verbally agreed personal terms with Villa.

However, the club are currently £10million short of Dortmund's £25million asking price.

Malen has scored five goals in 20 appearances this season and has 18 months remaining on his contract in Germany.
