After eliminating Arsenal from the FA Cup, Manchester United have been pitted against Ruud van Nistelrooy and his Leicester City.

Despite being reduced to ten men following Diogo Dalot’s dismissal in the second half, the Red Devils managed to survive the Gunner’s onslaught to prevail much to the dismay of the home supporters at the Emirates Stadium.

Bruno Fernandes gave the visitors the lead early in the second half with an astonishing first-time strike. However, the hosts replied swiftly following Dalot’s exit thanks to a deflected shot from Gabriel.

Arsenal thought they had the game wrapped up when the referee awarded them a dubious penalty when Harry Maguire placed a hand on Gabriel Martinelli’s chest. However, Altay Bayindir emerged as the hero by denying Martin Odegaard from the spot.

Ruben Amorim’s men showed tenacity and fighting spirit to cling to the scoreline until the 120th minute, before emerging victorious in the penalty shootouts with a 5-3 result.

All five United stars were flawless from the spot, with Joshua Zirkzee scoring the fifth and final shot in what could be a major turnaround for the Dutchman who has now reconciled with the club’s supporters following the unceremonious incident that ensued a couple of weeks ago.

Shortly after the dramatic contest at the Emirates, the FA held the draw for the fourth round, and it pitted the Reds against Leicester in what will be a special occasion for Van Nistlelrooy.

The Man Utd legend will be making his return to Old Trafford after his November exit. The former striker was appointed as caretaker coach following Erik ten Hag’s sacking, and was then hoping to remain as part of Amorim’s technical staff, but the Portuguese manager politely rebuffed the proposal.

The clash will take place on the weekend between February 8th and 9th.
