Walk away

Pep Guardiola has sensationally told talkSPORT that Kyle Walker has asked to leave Manchester City.

The Citizens legend was absent for his side's 8-0 FA Cup win over Salford City with the club initially explaining he wasn't injured and calling it a 'technical issue'.

Yet Guardiola cleared things up comprehensively post match as he told talkSPORT: "He said to the club two days ago that he wants to explore going abroad.

"He wants to finish his career in another place.

"He asked two years ago and I tried to convince him to commit to stay and he signed a contract and he was really important and won the Premier League last season as a captain.

"Now he's saying that he would like to go to another country in this transfer window.

"He's a player who when he's fit and he's focused with the attitude as a player he can play one, two, three more years.

"I've never seen a physical condition like he has in my life.

"All the success we've had in the eight years belongs a huge part to him and the guys almost had 100 games with the England national team.

"I don't need to tell you how important he's been but now he's said to the club that he wants another experience - to explore was the word - and we will see what happens."

Coventry win on penalties

Coventry are into the fourth round after beating Sheffield Wednesday 4-3 on penalties.

The all-Championship tie had finished 1-1 after extra-time following a late equaliser from Wednesday during the 90 minutes.

However, both Olaf Kobacki and Jamal Lowe missed from 12 yards during the shootout.

Those misses allowed Norman Basette to step up and score the winner to send Frank Lampard's side through.

Penalties in Coventry

There are no goals in extra-time between Coventry and Sheffield Wednesday as the match ends 1-1.

It will be the first match in this season's third round to go to penalties.

Guardiola on Walker

Pep Guardiola has addressed Kyle Walker's absence from the Manchester City squad for their win over Salford City.

The full-back was left out of both the starting line-up and the list of replacements.

Guardiola revealed in his post-match press conference that Walker has asked to leave City.

He told reporters: "Two days ago, Kyle asked to explore the options to play abroad and end his career."

The 34-year-old has 18 months remaining on his Manchester City contract, which expires at the end of next season.

Wednesday go to extra-time

Sheffield Wednesday grab a late equaliser to send their tie against Coventry to extra-time.

Liam Kitching had put the hosts in front in the first half and they remained ahead until second half stoppage time.

However, Anthony Musaba's 93rd minute strike levelled the match.

Another 30 minutes is coming up to decide the winner, with penalties also a possibility if it is still level.

FT Man City 8-0 Salford City

Manchester City ease into the fourth round of the FA Cup by putting eight past Salford City.

It is the first time City have scored eight goals in an FA Cup tie since January 1933, when they beat Gateshead 9-0.

The League Two outfit were blown away in the second half as James McAtee scored a hat-trick for the hosts.

In doing so, he becomes the first Englishman to score an FA Cup hat-trick for City since Robbie Fowler against Scunthorpe in January 2006.

Jeremy Doku also scored twice along with goals for Divin Mubama, Nico O'Reilly and Jack Grealish.

Elsewhere, Leeds beat Harrogate 1-0 at Elland Road and Coventry lead Sheffield Wednesday by the same score.

GOAL! Man City 8-0 Salford City - James McAtee

It's that man again James McAtee as City add another in the final 10 minutes.

McAtee had not scored a home goal for City before tonight and now he has a hat-trick.

A patient move from the hosts ends with Jack Grealish passing the ball into the youngster, who slides to prod it into the net.

Pep Guardiola's side will be in tomorrow's fourth round draw.

GOAL! Man City 7-0 Salford City - James McAtee

Goals in quick succession sees City move seven goals in front.

Firstly, the hosts break beautifully before Phil Foden finds Jeremy Doku on the right.

Doku cuts inside effortlessly before firing at goal, with his strike hitting Curtis Tilt on the arm, before he steps up to score from 12 yards.

The goal is followed by a double change for Salford as Cole Stockton and Conor McAleny replace Kylian Kouassi and Matty Lund.

However, that makes little difference for the League Two outfit as James McAtee grabs his second just moments later.

Doku has since been replaced by Mateo Kovacic as Pep Guardiola makes his third change of the evening.

GOAL! Man City 5-0 Salford City - James McAtee

Another swift passing move for City as they carve open Salford City once again.

More brilliant wing play from Jeremy Doku as he races clear down the right-hand side.

The Belgian fires in a first-time cross into the penalty area, which James McAtee diverts into the net.

It is the midfielder's first home goal for the Premier League giants to put further gloss on his performance.

City have also made another change with Phil Foden replacing Savinho.

Meanwhile, Leeds have taken the lead against Harrogate at Elland Road.

GOAL! Man City 4-0 Salford City - Jack Grealish

It's turning into a nightmare for Salford City.

A mix-up at the back as the League Two side attempt to play out from the back results in Jack Grealish being fouled.

The City winger steps up to convert from 12 yards and make it 4-0 just moments into the second half.

Grealish ends a lengthy goal drought by sending Matty Young the wrong way.

It is the England international's first goal since December 2023.

If the hosts were not already looking ahead to the fourth round draw, they can now.

Meanwhile, you have to start to fear for Salford with over 40 minutes remaining.

Man City 3-0 Salford City

Back underway at the Etihad Stadium as City lead by three goals.

There is a change for the hosts ahead of the second half, though.

Manuel Akanji is on for Pep Guardiola's side in place of Nathan Ake.

Meanwhile, Coventry now lead Sheffield Wednesday at half-time in the 6pm kick-off.

Leeds against Harrogate is also back underway at Elland Road.

HT Man City 3-0 Salford City

A comfortable half-time lead for Manchester City against League Two Salford City.

First half goals from Jeremy Doku, Divin Mubama and Nico O'Reilly have made the difference so far.

Salford have showed glimpses in attack but have largely had to deal with constant City pressure in defence.

However, Pep Guardiola's side have been ruthless in front of goal to put themselves on course for the fourth round.

Elsewhere, both Leeds vs Harrogate and Coventry vs Sheffield Wednesday remain goalless.

GOAL! Man City 3-0 Salford City - Nico O'Reilly

City are all but through before half-time as another youngster gets on the scoresheet.

Teenager Nico O'Reilly gets forward from defence to get his name on the scoresheet.

After being teed up by Jeremy Doku, O'Reilly fires a shot across the goalkeeper into the bottom corner.

Man City 2-0 Salford City

Salford have weathered the storm with the first half starting to peter out as we pass the half hour mark.

The home side still look dangerous whenever they string a few passes together.

City's quality on the ball is allowing them to slice through the Salford defence when presented with the opportunity.

Other than an injury scare for goalkeeper Matty Young, though, Salford have been comfortable for the last 10 minutes or so.

Kylian Kouassi even drove into the City penalty area with a driving run from the left flank.

However, his effort was easily held by Ederson in goal for the hosts.

GOAL! Man City 2-0 Salford City - Divin Mubama

City double their lead after a brilliantly worked move.

Matheus Nunes slips in Savinho, who rolls the ball across the six-yard box.

Debutant Divin Mubama is there to tap the ball into an empty net for his first City goal.

The home side's second is more than deserved, with Salford camped in their own half since the opener.

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey went close himself to what would have also been his first goal for the club.

Meanwhile, goalscorer Doku is wreaking havoc down the left-hand side, with Liam Shephard booked for a heavy challenge on the Belgian.

GOAL! Man City 1-0 Salford City - Jeremy Doku

It takes the hosts less than eight minutes to open the scoring.

A clinical counter attack sees five City players bearing down on the Salford goal.

Jack Grealish patiently draws in a defender before teeing up Jeremy Doku inside the penalty area.

The winger's well-placed effort is almost saved by the goalkeeper, who tips it onto the post.

However, the ball ricochets into the back of the net to put the Premier League giants in front.

FT Chelsea 5-0 Morecambe

Chelsea are into the fourth round draw after a comfortable home win over Morecambe.

The League Two side held their own for much of the first half before being blown away after the interval.

Christopher Nkunku saw a penalty saved before Tosin Adarabioyo's deflected strike opened the scoring.

Nkunku found the net five minutes into the second half before Tosin grabbed a second.

Joao Felix completed the rout with a brace late on as Enzo Maresca's side advance to the next round.

Plymouth have won away from home for the first time this season, beating Premier League Brentford.

The Pilgrims are currently bottom of the Championship but are into the fourth round draw.

Morgan Whittaker’s goal eight minutes from time is the difference in West London.

Elsewhere, Exeter have knocked out Oxford from the league above after an impressive 3-1 win of the League One outfit.

Bournemouth, Brighton and Nottingham Forest are also safely through.

Meanwhile, extra-time is coming up at Reading and Sunderland.

GOAL! Chelsea 5-0 Morecambe - Joao Felix

Joao Felix has a second and it is the pick of the bunch from Chelsea.

The Portuguese cuts in from the left hand side before bending a stunning right-footed strike into the top corner.

Chelsea were made to work for their half-time lead at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

However, the Blues have blown away their League Two opponents since the interval.

GOAL! Chelsea 4-0 Morecambe - Joao Felix

It's a fourth for the Blues as Marc Cucurella sets up Joao Felix to score.

The full-back races down the left flank before passing inside to Tyrique George.

George's ball to Felix tees up the Portuguese on the edge of the box as he controls before shooting.

His low driven strike is too powerful for the Morecambe goalkeeper as it rifles into the bottom corner.

GOAL! Chelsea 3-0 Morecambe - Tosin Adarabioyo

Chelsea have their third and it's a second for Tosin Adarabioyo.

The defender once again scores from range but without the aid of a deflection this time around.
