And as a result, the Hammers, under new manager Graham Potter, are prioritising signing a new striker in the January transfer window.
The Hammers have already lost captain and star forward Jarrod Bowen to a fractured foot.
His injury, picked up in a 5-0 Premier League defeat to Liverpool, will likely see him out until early March.
"Unfortunately in the first half of our game on Sunday I suffered a fracture to a bone in my foot," Bowen wrote on Instagram.
"As always I tried to fight on and continue playing until I physically couldn't.
"Injuries happen in football but I'm already looking forward to getting back out there as soon as possible. See you all soon."

talkSPORT revealed earlier in the week that West Ham have been asked to be informed about the situation surrounding Marcus Rashford.
The Manchester United forward looks set to leave the club sooner or later with a number of clubs interested.
Napoli, Juventus, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund are among those seemingly keen on the England forward.
A loan move is the most likely deal that could be done in the January transfer window.
Rashford's £300,000 wages are also a potential stumbling block for any move for the England international.
In December, he insisted he was ready for a new challenge.

Speaking to esteemed journalist Henry Winter, Rashford said: “For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps.
"When I leave it's going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.
"If I know that a situation is already bad I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person.
"When I leave I'll make a statement and it will be from me. 100 per cent."
Rashford added: “I’m halfway through my career. I don’t expect my peak to be now.
"I've had nine years so far in the Premier League and that’s taught me a lot, that’s helped me grow as a player and as a person.
"So I don't have any regrets from the last nine years.
"I won’t have any regrets going forward because I take things day by day and sometimes bad things happen, sometimes good things happen. I just try and keep a fine balance."
