Barcelona’s financial struggles have been widely reported, with the Catalan giants still grappling to restore economic stability.

As a result of the club’s woes on that front, the likelihood of Barça having to offload some of their key players has risen significantly.

Frenkie de Jong has often been the focus of exit rumors, and now he’s joined by his midfield partner, Pedri Gonzalez.

Earlier reports suggested that Liverpool were lurking with interest, eyeing a potential move to acquire Pedri’s services.

Pedri is only focused on Barcelona

However, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano there is no substance behind those links, and Barcelona have no intention of parting with their young star.

He argues that “there is nothing at all between Pedri and Liverpool,” as the Canary Islander appears unwilling to entertain any discussion of an exit.

In fact, the 21-year-old’s renewal is a priority for Barcelona. The club intends to sit down and discuss terms in the coming weeks or months after wrapping up Pau Cubarsi’s contract renewal.

Moreover, the Catalan giants consider Pedri a crucial part of their project moving forward.

Despite the young player’s injury setbacks, he has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to make a significant impact when fit. His cameo against PSG in the first leg served as an ideal example.

Extension till 2028 plausible

Barcelona’s progress in their contract renewal discussions with Pedri has been sluggish, but that is mainly due to the club’s financial constraints.

Despite talks still pending, the team has assured Pedri that a new and improved contract will be signed which will better represent his value to the team.

Should all proceed as planned, Barcelona intends to keep Pedri under contract until at least 2028.
