Since the attacks in Moscow on March 22, 2024 in a concert hall, the state of alert for terrorism has been raised. France has upgraded its Vigipirate plan to the “emergency attack” level, making stadiums a priority. Last night's match between France and Chile at the Vélodrome stadium was closely monitored with an additional 400 police officers mobilized. Many supporters, however, came with a lump in their stomach to see the Blues. As reported Provencesome supporters showed more vigilance: “for an event like this, I always arrive several hours in advance to do visual scouting” declared a supporter near the stadium. Others had real fears.

The attack in Russia brought back old bad memories. A supporter fears a new massacre: “I cried about it yesterday with a friend. I'm afraid of a third world war, it stresses me out a lot.. Others want to try to “to live with” this threat but still wanting to take advantage of collective events. The same morning, high school students in Avignon and the region had received threats of attack on their digital workspace (ENT).
