Barcelona’s squad depth has been running awfully low this season as they look to compete for all trophies they are still a part of.
While they have already lost the Spanish Super Cup title to Real Madrid, Xavi is confident that the club can challenge for La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Champions League.
Barça will be praying that injuries permit this treble challenge for as long as last season, unlike last campaign, when injuries to the backline severely impacted their Champions League campaign, and they were relegated to the Europa League.
Gavi is the biggest absence from the side right now, and Barcelona are looking for players to replace him on a short-term deal or loan. While that goes on in the background, they have been offered the chance to offload a midfielder in the winter.
Fenerbahce eyeing Oriol Romeu deal
As per reports from Sercan Dikme, Besiktas have sent an official offer to Barcelona for Oriol Romeu. The two parties have already started negotiations.
Romeu is understandably unhappy with his playing time at Barcelona right now. He has been relegated to Copa del Rey matches, with Xavi not entirely convinced with his performances over the first half of the season.
As such, the former Girona man might be more than happy to leave this winter, with the expectation that the transfer could seamlessly go through in the coming weeks.
Romeu’s declining presence
After arriving from Barcelona in the summer, Romeu became a mainstay in the starting XI for the first couple of months or so and even put in some solid displays.
However, his form has been on the decline for a while now, which resulted in him being phased out of the lineup by Xavi.
Since December, he has not started in any of Barcelona’s La Liga matches and he did not play any part in the two games in the Spanish Super Cup either, indicating where he stands.
But, given the lack of depth in the squad, it is unlikely that Barça would sanction a sale, unless the offer is too good to be turned down.
