Everton, Nottingham Forest, Manchester City… Lately, financial scandals have been making headlines in the British media. With this in mind, the Toffees were also sanctioned with a withdrawal of ten points in the ranking for alleged violation of its rules of profitability and viability. A terrible snub for the club coached by Sean Dyche but an innocuous sanction considering what the Mancunian team could suffer… Already banned from UEFA competitions for two years by the governing body of European football for “serious infractions” to the rules of the FFP – the sanction was then canceled by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) – Manchester City can this time fear the worst. Under investigation since 2018, the Citizens and their Emirati owners will, in fact, have to respond to 115 accusations of financial offenses recorded in nine seasons (between 2009 and 2018).
Manchester City risks relegation at a minimum!
“In accordance with Premier League Rule W.82.1, the Premier League confirms that it has today referred a number of alleged breaches of Premier League rules by Manchester City Football Club to a committee”, ensured the Premier League last February with this in mind. From the payment of a significant part of Roberto Mancini’s salary by an entity foreign to the club (under the direct control of its Emirati owner) to illegal payments intended to facilitate the acquisition of players who are still minors, including the disguise of contracts sponsorship, part of which would have been settled by the club itself, the current second in the English championship is exposed to heavy sanctions. Former financial director of Manchester City, Stefan Borson also announced, this Thursday, a possible dark future for the Mancunian club, coached by Pep Guardiola.
“If these accusations are proven, it will end in relegation at the very least. There are suspicions of conspiracy over a ten-year period. These suggest that the sponsorship deals are not for 60-70 million euros, but rather 9 million, which would mean a sham and the lies of lots of people. A whole bunch of executives from multiple companies were in there. The club also lied to multiple professionals and people obliged to do their due diligence. If all this is proven, it is extremely serious. No one can dispute that. The city itself, in its observations, will say that this is an allegation of the most serious nature.thus assured the former leader of the Citizens in comments relayed by the Daily Mail. To conclude, Borson nevertheless tempered his remarks by imagining a happier scenario for the Skyblues. “I think they will clear their name because a case of this nature must have a convincing level of proof which seems to me impossible to present to an independent commission”.
Pep Guardiola remains calm…
Recently questioned about the terrible sanctions to which his club was exposed today, Pep Guardiola, for his part, displayed a certain optimism, refusing in particular to compare the situation to that experienced by Everton. I won’t say a single word about Everton because I don’t know anything about what actually happened but what I do know, from the lawyers and people at my club, is that they are totally different cases, had thus declared the Spanish technician before stepping up to the plate. “I will respond when I have the decision. You question me as if we have already been punished. We are currently innocent until proven guilty. I know people are waiting for this. I know it, I feel it. Let’s wait and see. Once the decision is known, I will come here (in front of the press, editor’s note) and respond”.
“When you read (what is said) then we should be relegated, relegated, relegated, of course, but nobody knows anything precisely. All the people who say this have not read the press releases, do not know exactly what happened, me included. I haven’t read all the offenses, I haven’t read our defense elements.had also added the former Barça coach before certifying that his future at City will not depend on the presence of the club “here (in the first division) or in League One”, the equivalent of the English third level. One thing is certain, until the final outcome of this affair – the British daily specifies that the conclusions should not come before the end of next season – Manchester City may tremble.
