Thiago Alcantara had a short but sweet stint as part of new Barcelona manager Hansi Flick’s coaching staff this summer.

The former midfielder hung up his boots after enduring an injury-riddled stint at Liverpool and was offered a place on Flick’s staff on a short-term basis.

Even though he was expected to continue until September, Thiago stepped down from his position earlier this month with youth team coach Arnau Blanco taking his place.

Thiago could return in January

Now, though, journalist Alex Pintanel of Relevo reports that Thiago could be open to returning to Barcelona and joining Hansi Flick’s staff in January.

After leaving his position at Barcelona, the former La Masia ace returned to the United Kingdom, where he is a resident, for tax reasons.

Thiago will use the next few months to enjoy his family before choosing his new professional path. And, as per the report, he could return to Barça to continue helping Flick from January onwards.

It is an option that is currently being considered by both the club and the ex-footballer, who will be the one to make the final decision.

Thiago’s positive impact in a short time

Thiago’s importance as part of Flick’s staff in the initial days of his tenure at Barcelona has been paramount.

The youngsters, in particular, were left impressed by how the former Liverpool man took to his duties while also marvelling over his abilities on the pitch.

Thiago enjoyed a very close relationship with the players, especially with the youngsters, instilling in them the Barça DNA. Mentoring Pedri and Gavi, in particular, was one of his main projects.

Barcelona have been delighted with the work carried out by Thiago and as such, a return might not be off the table.
