Omari Forson may have chosen to leave Manchester United this summer, but he has sent a heartfelt message to manager Erik ten Hag, thanking him for the opportunities he was afforded at Old Trafford.
The 19-year-old turned down a new contract with the Red Devils and has signed a four-year deal with Serie A side Monza.
The teenager begun his career in the academy at West Ham, before moving to Tottenham and then Manchester United in 2019, but he has only played senior football for the Red Devils.
The playmaker made his debut for Manchester United under Ten Hag last season, going on to make four Premier League appearances and three more in the FA Cup.
The Premier League giants were keen to keep hold of him, confirming last week that Forson had been offered a new contract, but he has since opted for the switch to Italy.
Far from a bitter exit, the London-born youngster wrote on his Instagram on Tuesday that he was thankful for the chances he was given by Ten Hag.
Posting a picture of him with the Dutchman, Forson wrote: ‘Appreciate all the opportunities you gave me. Gonna show the world what you saw in my a long time ago.’
Monza announced the four-year contract for the teenager on Tuesday, describing him as ‘one of the most promising prospects in Europe.’
Forson was handed one Premier League start under Ten Hag, against Fulham in February, with the Dutchman clearly a fan of his work, but unfortunately for the prospect that game ended in a thoroughly disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Fulham.
Ten Hag’s own future appears to be at Old Trafford, at least for now, with the club deciding to stick with the former Ajax boss for the forthcoming season.
There was huge doubt over whether the 54-year-old would remain in charge after the Red Devils finished eighth in the top flight last season, their worst ever Premier League campaign.
However, their shock FA Cup win over Manchester City and a lack of good options to replace Ten Hag, will see him stay in charge and try and build on the positive end to the season at Wembley.
