Barcelona will be heading into the summer transfer window looking to offload some of their prized assets in the hopes of raising revenue through player sales. The club want to return to the 1:1 spending quota in La Liga so they can sign players for other positions.

Several names have popped up on the shortlist, including Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, and Raphinha, among others. But none are expected to raise quite as much money as Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutchman is reportedly between two minds about his Barcelona future, and could be headed towards the exit door as early as this summer to avoid decreasing his salary with an extension.

As such, several top clubs across Europe have been linked with his name, including PSG, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and a certain Manchester United, who also tried signing the Dutchman in 2022.

However, according to Express, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo, United will not be able to shell out the €100-120 million Barcelona are demanding for de Jong.

Instead, they are offering Barcelona the pick of four players to reduce the overall price of the deal. These are namely, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Scott McTominay, and Mason Greenwood.

Sancho

Currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund, Sancho has failed to live up to the hype he was expected to, when initially moving from the Bundesliga outfit in the first place.

He has fallen out with Erik ten Hag at United, and the club are looking to move him on permanently in the summer, with no reported valuation of his price tag.

Antony

Also signed for nearly €100 million, Antony has arguably faired even worse than Sancho at the Old Trafford so far. To put things into perspective, the Brazilian has not scored or assisted in any Premier League game since May 2023.

Barcelona would be better off sticking Joao Felix rather than Antony in their squad.

McTominay

Interestingly enough, United’s top scorer in the Prem this season with seven goals, McTominay has done fairly well for the Red Devils.

However, as a box-crashing 8, the Scottish international is definitely not the profile of midfielder Barcelona are currently looking for.

Greenwood

Another in a list of problematic Man United players, Greenwood is currently on loan at Getafe. The Englishman was under investigation for abusing his then-girlfriend and now-wife in 2022.

This is not only a bad fit for Barcelona on a sporting perspective, but the clubs should stay as far away from any potential deal for Greenwood if they are truly ‘more than a club’.
