After only one year at the club, Francesco Farioli will leave his position as coach of OGC Nice.

Francesco Farioli will not last long at OGC Nice. The young Italian coach is expected on the bench of a four-time European champion club, in this case Ajax Amsterdam. In 24 hours, the club from the south of France will have lost its coach and also its sports director.

There is no smoke without fire. It has been in the air for a few days and it is about to become official if we are to believe information from International Voetbal. Farioli will succeed John Van’t Schip on the Amsterdam bench.

Farioli takes a step forward

Farioli’s mission will be to restore Ajax to its former glory. The Batavian club is coming out of a catastrophic campaign, symbolized by a 5e place in the Eredivisie standings. He will be the first Dutch coach to take charge of this institution since the Dane Morten Olsen (1997-1998). 22 local coaches have since followed one another at the Johan Cruyff Arena. And there hasn’t been an Italian coach in the Netherlands since Massimo Morales in 1999.

Despite a minimalist and unspectacular style of play, Farioli will have succeeded in his time on the Riviera. With him, OGC Nice managed to end its Ligue 1 campaign at 5e place and secured its place in the Europa League. Le Gym also finished the championship with the best defense.
